Emergency Dental Care

A dental emergency is any urgent situation that puts the health of your teeth, gums, or surrounding tissues at immediate risk and requires prompt professional attention.

Emergency Dental Care

Dental Emergencies at Westlake Dental Care

At Westlake Dental Care, we understand that dental emergencies can be painful, alarming, and stressful. Whether it’s a sudden toothache, a chipped tooth, or an injury involving dental trauma, our team is prepared to act quickly and compassionately to provide the urgent care you need.

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, call us immediately. We offer same-day emergency appointments for most conditions and will do everything possible to see you as soon as we can.

Conditions That Require Immediate Attention

Even if you’re not in pain, some issues can worsen rapidly without treatment. Contact us right away if you experience any of the following:

  • Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth

  • A lost or loose crown or filling

  • Intense tooth sensitivity

  • Persistent or severe toothache

  • Visible swelling or signs of infection

  • Bleeding or inflamed gums

  • Sudden jaw pain or limited jaw movement

What to Do If a Tooth Is Knocked Out

Time is critical when handling a knocked-out tooth:

  • For permanent teeth: Rinse gently (no scrubbing), try to reinsert into the socket, or place the tooth in milk or saliva to keep it moist.

  • For baby teeth: Do not reinsert. Contact your child’s dentist right away for further instructions.

Always handle the tooth by the crown (top), not the root.

After-Hours Emergencies

If you are a current patient and experience a dental emergency outside regular business hours, please call our office. We’ll provide instructions on how to reach our emergency line or schedule urgent care as soon as possible.

Home Remedies for Temporary Relief

While you wait to be seen, these tips can help manage discomfort:

  • Rinse with warm salt water to reduce swelling

  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen or acetaminophen)

  • Apply cold compresses to the cheek or jaw

  • Use benzocaine-based dental gels for topical relief (as directed)

  • Avoid very hot, cold, or hard foods

  • Place a soft cotton ball or gauze over sharp edges from a broken tooth

  • Use a heating pad for jaw tension or TMJ-related discomfort

We’re Here When You Need Us
